“I believe that the strength of our universities derives in large part from their autonomy….an autonomous system is one that needs to innovate continually. Its provision must be diverse. It must empower its students”.
To his credit, the new Minister of State recognises that the price of freedom in higher education is constant re-invention.
But do academics recognise what this means? It means that the people most involved in teaching and learning must take the responsibility for assuring and improving the quality of the student experience.
